The City of Seattle and the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the phased deployment of up to 80 interactive media kiosks in the public right-of-way. These 'Kiosks' will provide a range of public services including wayfinding, public service and safety announcements, free Wi-Fi, and 911 call functions. They will also display commercial advertising. Phase I involves the installation of 30 kiosks in the downtown Metropolitan Improvement District (MID), with Phase II allowing for an additional 50 kiosks in downtown and potential 'Extension Areas' throughout the city. DSA is responsible for kiosk siting, installation, operation, maintenance, and vendor management. Revenues generated from the kiosks are projected to be approximately $1.1 million annually from Phase I and will be dedicated to public safety services and other public benefit purposes, as well as remitted to the City for general purposes in certain cases. The agreement emphasizes collaboration between the City and DSA, and compliance with city permits and ordinances, including for the 2026 FIFA World Cup operations.
