The Phoenix City Council retroactively authorized the City Manager to apply for and accept transportation funding through the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Arterial Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (ARRP) and Arterial Widening Program (AWP) grants for Fiscal Years 2025 through 2028. The approved Ordinance S-52113 also includes an exemption from the indemnification prohibition for governmental entities. The city is seeking up to $46 million in grant funds, with a local match not exceeding $20 million, bringing the estimated total project cost to $66 million. Five specific projects have been identified for funding consideration: Lower Buckeye Road (27th to 19th Avenue), 7th Avenue (Southern Avenue to Broadway Road), 27th Avenue (Lower Buckeye to Buckeye Road), 35th Avenue (I-10 to Camelback Road), and Cave Creek Road (Angela Drive to Beardsley Road). These projects aim to improve capacity and condition on existing roadways in Council Districts 2, 3, 7, and 8.
