The Phoenix City Council approved granting a permanent power transmission easement to Salt River Project across a 670-square-foot portion of City-owned property at the southwest corner of S. 40th Street and the Western Canal. The easement authorizes SRP to install, operate, and maintain a new 69kv transformer and associated infrastructure, upgrading service to the Bartlett Parker area. The grant will be executed for the appraised consideration and will permit improved electrical capacity to nearby residences and businesses. The easement area, identified on parcel number 122-98-002, ensures SRP’s right to access the site for maintenance activities. The City Treasurer is authorized to accept all funds related to this agreement. Assistant City Manager Inger Erickson facilitated the interdepartmental coordination between Street Transportation and Finance departments. Ordinance S-51863 embodies the terms and is recorded in the City’s land records. Council District 8 sponsored the application. No construction activities beyond the installation of the transformer and related conduit are permitted outside the easement area. The easement aligns with existing utility corridors along the canal. SRP’s upgrade will reduce outage incidents and support future growth in the southern Phoenix corridor.
