The City of Phoenix Head Start Birth to Five Program has requested authorization to submit an application to purchase modular buildings for two Head Start programs: Deer Valley Unified School District and Booker T. Washington Child Development Center. The Deer Valley modular building will be 2,250 SF with two classrooms for 40 children, costing $850,045. The Booker T. Washington modular building will be 2,592 SF and include three offices, a conference room, a classroom, a teacher break/work room, an IT room, and two restrooms, costing $1,067,276. Both projects aim to expand space for early childhood education and administrative staff. The total cost of the project is $1,917,321, with funding coming from identified salary savings from the Head Start program's carryover request, approved by the Region IX Office of Head Start in June 2024. Both Deer Valley and Booker T. Washington are required to provide a 25% non-federal match for their respective costs. The buildings are single-story, permanently affixed modular structures with steel and wood framing, fire sprinkler systems, and HVAC. The project involves site preparation, utility extensions, and the construction of perimeter block walls and sidewalks.
