The Phoenix City Council has authorized a grant application and agreement for the 2025 Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). This project involves constructing a shade structure at the Transformation Site, a one-acre parcel adjacent to the southern bank of the Rio Salado near Pioneer Street, in line with the site’s master plan. Additionally, the project includes environmental and habitat restoration activities to enhance the river corridor's ecological and community value. This initiative falls under the Rio Reimagined program, aimed at revitalizing the 20-mile Rio Salado corridor by improving habitats and creating accessible spaces for residents.
This decision contributes to ecological restoration and community access to the Rio Salado area, enhancing environmental sustainability and quality of life. It also represents a strategic use of grants and volunteer efforts to fund public infrastructure improvements.
