The Louisville Metro Planning Commission recommended approval of a text amendment to the Land Development Code (Case No. 25-LDC-0001) concerning financial institutions. The amendment redefines "Financial Institutions" by splitting them into two categories: "Chartered" (traditional banks, credit unions) and "Non-Chartered" (deferred deposit, check cashing, consumer loan companies). It also modifies the permitted zoning districts for each. Chartered Financial Institutions will be permitted in C-N and C-1 Commercial Districts. Non-Chartered Financial Institutions will be permitted in C-2 Commercial Districts, as well as M-1, M-2, and M-3 Industrial zoning districts. The motion to recommend approval passed by a vote of 8-1 during the Planning Commission Public Hearing on August 7, 2025. The changes aim to provide consistent language and equitable distribution of uses.
