The Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government approved Resolution R-057-25, establishing the America250KY Committee to coordinate local celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States. This committee, designated as the official Jefferson County affiliate of the statewide America250KY initiative, is tasked with planning, encouraging, developing, and implementing events that recognize Kentucky's role in the nation's history. The committee will include members appointed by the Mayor and the President of the Louisville Metro Council from various political and historical organizations, such as the Democratic and Republican Executive Committees, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Louisville Historical Society, Frazier History Museum, Historic Locust Grove, University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences, The Filson Historical Society, and Roots 101 African-American Museum. It will be attached to the Mayor's Office for Special Events, meeting at least monthly, and will be responsible for coordinating bipartisan and non-partisan community and educational events leading up to July 4, 2026. This includes planning a large-scale celebration with musical performances, a parade, military demonstrations, fireworks, and historical commemorations. The committee members will serve as unpaid volunteers, and the committee may seek funding through private contributions or the Metro budget. The committee is set to terminate by December 31, 2026, after submitting a final report on Louisville's celebrations. The resolution was recommended for approval by the Government Oversight/Audit and Appointments Committee on June 3, 2025.
