The City Council requested the Department of Water and Power (DWP), in coordination with other city departments, to develop a comprehensive, long-term shared-use and maintenance strategy for 30 DWP-owned parcels along Canterbury Avenue in Arleta. These parcels, forming a 2.5-mile strip, are currently used for various purposes including nursery operations, construction staging, and vehicle parking, and have faced issues of poor maintenance. The strategy aims to repurpose the land for community-serving uses such as pedestrian pathways, recreational amenities, and environmental restoration, aligning with LA100 Equity Strategies. The DWP is also requested to assess the feasibility of repurposing, identify funding sources, and conduct community engagement sessions.
