The Housing and Homelessness Committee, at its meeting on July 30, 2025, considered a motion to instruct the Chief Legislative Analyst (CLA) to produce monthly reports on the City's response to complaints of price gouging in the rental housing market. This action concurred with the Ad Hoc Committee for LA Recovery's earlier approval on June 23, 2025, of a similar motion. The reports are intended to cover the duration of a statewide emergency order related to January 2025 fires and for six months thereafter. The proposed reports would include data on recovered amounts for tenants, fines and penalties issued and collected, types of landlords involved, geographic breakdowns of complaints and enforcement actions, a list of repeat offenders, and recommendations for improving enforcement. This item is still pending final City Council action.
