The City Council's Ad Hoc Committee for LA Recovery, Public Safety and Public Works Committees approved a motion instructing the Emergency Management Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, and other relevant emergency response departments to report within 30 days on a comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Plan for mudslide risks. The plan is to include an evacuation plan for at-risk areas, standard operating procedures for major mudslide events, and best practices for safeguarding public safety and City infrastructure. The report should detail clearly assigned responsibilities, a timeline for implementation, and any lack of resources or capability to protect against loss of life and/or property due to mudslides. The motion was initially considered by the Ad Hoc Committee on February 6, 2025, and subsequently concurred by the Public Safety and Public Works Committees on February 19, 2025 and June 25, 2025, respectively. The matter is now forwarded to the full Council for consideration.
