The Denver City Council approved the rescission of $13,935,000 from the General Fund Contingency to be re-appropriated for various unbudgeted city needs in 2025. The largest portion, $11,000,000, is allocated to the Denver Police Department to cover significant overtime and separation payout costs. Additional funds will support the City Attorney's Office for legal settlements ($1,200,000), the Department of Finance for unemployment insurance claims ($1,000,000), the District Attorney's office ($550,000), the Municipal Public Defender ($150,000), and the City Council ($35,000). This supplemental appropriation is a key part of the city's strategy to manage a revenue shortfall and achieve a $35 million savings target for the year. After this action, the General Fund Contingency balance will stand at approximately $20.6 million.
