The City and County of Denver has approved a $43,037,896 contract with FCI Constructors, Inc. for the construction of the new Westwood Recreation Center. This facility will be the first recreation center in the Westwood neighborhood and will include a 39,000-square-foot building featuring a large lap swimming pool, a lazy river, a waterslide, locker rooms, a gymnasium, fitness and weightlifting spaces, multipurpose rooms, and a kitchen. Additionally, the project will include outdoor play areas and a recreation field. The facility will be designed for sustainability, utilizing an all-electric geothermal heating and cooling system. The project is part of the 2017 Elevate Denver Bond Program and is expected to be completed within 912 days.
The Westwood Recreation Center will address a long-standing recreation service gap in West Denver, providing much-needed health and wellness opportunities for residents. The sustainable design supports Denver’s climate goals, and the project represents a major investment in community infrastructure.
