The City Council of Charlotte adopted a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a municipal agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). This agreement accepts $15,819,000 in Surface Transportation Block Grant - Direct Attributable Funds for the Eastway Drive/Shamrock Drive Intersection Project. The project aims to enhance safety and improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along Shamrock Drive in Council District 1. Improvements include connecting pedestrian facilities at the intersection, constructing a new facility for additional connectivity to Shamrock Drive, and adding bike lanes. The NCDOT funding is supplemented by $15,819,000 from local participation through Transportation Bonds, making the total project cost over $31 million. The project will proceed to the design phase upon execution of the municipal agreement, with construction anticipated to begin in 2029.
